From supplying 600km of steel pipe for the second oil pipeline between Durban and Johannesburg, to supplying the propeller shafts for the international maritime industry, Macdonald Steel has consistently delivered the highest quality products at the most competitive prices, without compromise to specification, size tolerance or delivery time.
Macdonald Steel continues to seek and develop new products and markets to serve future generations of steel users. And when a suitable steel solution is not available locally, the company acquires these requirements from their international network of steel suppliers. Macdonald Steel sources, procures and stockholds steel that go into the manufacture of components used in the assembly of Toyota, Nissan, Bell Equipment, John Deere and in the aluminium smelter industry.
It has, in conjunction with the South African rail authority, Transnet Rail Engineering, developed, recommended the use of and supplied special grades of steel for the manufacture of coil springs for both goods and passenger trains on South Africa’s railway network.
Macdonald Steel is also the preferred supplier to Gedore Tools and Somta Tools, both market leaders in their segment. It has commissioned the manufacture of a consistent fine grain cast iron of which it is the sole stockholder and distributor in South Africa. It is also the importer and distributor of specially manufactured welding electrodes that carries the Lloyds Register of Shipping approval, and supplies the anode material for Southern Africa’s aluminium smelters.
